ASHLEIGH & BURWOOD INVESTS IN CUTTING EDGE DESIGN TECHNOLOGY

14 November 2014

As pioneers at the forefront of design in the home fragrance industry, Ashleigh & Burwood is proud to announce its investment in new hardware with 3D printing capabilities, bringing substantial advantages to the creative side of the business.

3D printing is the ‘printing’ or creation of a three-dimensional object. Successive layers of material are laid down under computer control to create a desired shape. Prints can be of almost any shape or geometry, and are produced directly from a digital design. Ashleigh & Burwood’s new printer (nicknamed ‘Morph’ by the team) enables 3D samples to be produced in-house, allowing designers to hone the fine details of new products at an earlier stage of development.

The considerable advantages of faster and more accurate sampling in the early stages of product development are crucial for a growing company such as Ashleigh & Burwood. Brand Manager Hilary Osmon explains, “We are so excited to be able to apply this technology to such great effect in our business. Creatively, it is very liberating for our designers, who are awarded the opportunity of experimentation without additional cost implications and lengthy lead times. One of its main applications for us will be in new product sampling of course. The ability to create accurate prototypes in-house is both a huge advantage in terms of development and positive boost for the team here. This has the capability of speeding up our design processes considerably.”

Ashleigh & Burwood are able to use their 3D printer to produce prototypes of products in-house, trialling new designs quickly and efficiently, as these images illustrate.
