Kickstart Scheme

The ‘Kickstart Scheme’ is a government initiative to create high quality 6 month work placements for young people. These positions will be fully funded by the government. Businesses will have access to a large pool of young people with potential, looking for an opportunity. Further details can be found on the website http://gov.uk/kickstart.

Funding is available for:

·         100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week

·         associated employer National Insurance contributions

·         employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions

There is also £1500 per job placement available for setup costs, support and training.

Applications must be for a minimum of 30 placements, companies that don’t have 30 or more placements to offer can partner with other organisations using a Kickstart Representative to reach the minimum number and apply for funding. BJGI will be acting as a Kickstart Representative, if your company would be interested in taking part in the scheme please fill out the form below.

Before filling out the form, please ensure that you can meet the following criteria:

The Kickstart Scheme job placements must be:

  • 6 months
  • at least 25 hours per week
  • paying at least the National Minimum Wage through PAYE
  • paying the statutory employer duties for the health, safety and welfare for young people, National Insurance and pension contributions
  • including support for young people to help them get work after they finish their Kickstart Scheme job
  • funded by the Kickstart Scheme grant and would not exist without this funding
  • paid from the grant money for the 25 hours per week on National Minimum Wage (employers can pay a higher wage and pay for more hours)
  • not replace existing or planned jobs
  • not cause existing employees or contractors to lose or reduce their employment

Please note that this is a preliminary survey, this is not a guaranteed application to the Kickstart Scheme. Additional information will be required to submit a formal application, including proof that the position(s) has been created purely for the Kickstart Scheme and details of how you will help to support the long term employability of the youg person(s) on placement.
